Bagets – A Trip To the Memory Lane

Recently I posted a comment in facebook saying my friend looked “bagets”.

This caught my friend’s attention and she blurted, “no one says bagets anymore” except for the ones in my era.

what is bagets?  bagets means:
“teenager, teen”
root word is: bago meaning new.

I have been so accustomed to it already that i didn’t even realize no one understands and USES it anymore. It reminded me about some days in  my childhood when my Dad blared up the sound from our “Kenwood Component” when it played “Top of The World” by Caren Carpenters. It felt weird, and I couldn’t relate.   I was born when Beatles  was probably the NEW DIRECTION of this generation

I wonder if Nicole, my daughter would also feel the same way, when I sing along in the radio during Gold Rush Fridays.  I feel that the past is not really so long ago, but come to think of it, the songs that I sing are  like weird “ancient” songs  to todays kids.  I am probably forgetting that I am getting really old. Come to think of it, i feel young! I can even sing a Katy Perry song without missing a beat. (alright I am kidding!)

My preschool class presentation was dancing to Madonna’s  “Papa Don’t Preach and Material Girl”.  When I was in Grade 2, I remember dancing to “Don’t Cry” and “Tonight” while wearing black Raybans at 8:00 PM. Funny now, but frankly, we were the “cool kids” then. ha,ha,.Our parents were mighty proud of us donning our pigtails and balloon skirts in YELLOW. yikes!

I remember the first boy that I really liked was wearing an acid wash jeans, and a Fido Dido Shirt. Anyone here remembers Fido Dido 7 Up  Commercial? It was a hit.  When i was in Grade 1 probably, Game and Watch became uso. My parents even bought us a a family computer where I played GALAGA and Mario Brothers. Do you remember PACMAN? how about Battle City?  ALthough it NEVER ever became such a big deal for us, as we were still content playing chinese garters, and siatom with friends.  I realized now how different the kids of the past reacted to technology.  Right now, no matter how we try to train our daughter to act normal and unaffected, she still gets depressed when she is grounded and not allowed to touch an ipad.   During my time, the nintendo family computer was never used as a threat. Really!

I have a good friend now who actually became friends with the  MENUDO members. If she was my friend already back then, I would probably sell all that I had just to fly to Manila and get introduced to RAY, my Menudo “Crush”.  If you do not know MENUDO, then you shouldn’t be reading this blog as you will probably be gagging in a while from  now, about to get grossed out by the dusty topic of the past.

Menudo was a a MAJOR group in the 80s. They were soo popular that even while in class, i was daydreaming of Ricky Martin and of course my crush “Ray”. Well, we all know that Ricky Martin is gay, and the others, i dont’ know anymore what has become of them.

What else reminds me of my childhood? Hmmmn a lot! People Power Revolution, People Power T Shirts, People Power Corn Chips, and Ninoy Aquino items. I was a Romnick Sarmenta and Jennifer Sevilla groupie. The other girls I knew in school were in the other faction.  I am referring to the Sheryl Cruz Romnick Sarmienta loveteam.  They were the BRANGELINA and the BRAD-JEN Teams back then.

Now how did I get into this memory lane trip? Oh yeah, BAGETS. Bagets was a teeny bopper movie in 1984 starring the most goodlooking guys that time. The only person left now that I know is Aga Muhlach (who is now a grandad).

For the benefit of the younger generation, check out the photos below.
